Composting – evening session (Grower's Guild Winter 2021 series)
April 7, Evening - 7:00 - 8:30 pm AST

There are several ways to compost. We will discuss hot vs. cold composting and learn how to build "hot piles" so we can produce soil as quickly as possible. We will also look at integrating finished composting into existing soil types to make the best growing medium possible.

The Hayes Farm started the Grower's Guild discussion series in the winter of 2020. They have finished their 2021 sessions already, put are keen to "pass the torch" to other groups to carry on with sessions.

The RAVEN Project's Growing a Better Future Initiative in partnership with the Permaculture Atlantic Network and Hayes Farm will be hosting three free sessions this spring to help get you ready for the garden season. Guest speaker Mark Trelot, Manager at the Hayes Farm will join us for the composting sessions to talk about working with different soil profiles. Amy Floyd will co-ordinate sessions as the study group "tutor".

How does it work?

We are calling these "peer study group sessions."

A basic power point will be sent to you in advance if you want to read through before the call. The sessions will start by your tutor going more in-depth about what is in the power point. The group launches into peer-based discussion on the topics. At least half of the session will be discussion (we are trying to learn from each other at least as much or more than from the tutor).

Come ready with questions!
